Entropy - In thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, the thermodynamic entropy (or simply the entropy) S is a key physical variable in describing a thermodynamic system.
Entropy of mixing - The entropy of mixing is the change in the entropy, an extensive thermodynamic quantity, when two different chemical substances or components are mixed. This entropy change must be positive since there is more uncertainty about the spatial locations of the different kinds of molecules when they are interspersed.
Information entropy - Entropy is a concept in thermodynamics (see thermodynamic entropy), statistical mechanics and information theory. The concepts of information and entropy have deep links with one another, although it took many years for the development of the theories of statistical mechanics and information theory to make this apparent.
Nat (information) - A nat is a logarithmic unit of information or entropy, based on natural logarithms and powers of e, rather than the powers of 2 and base 2 logarithms which define the bit. The nat is the natural unit for information entropy, corresponding to Boltzmann's constant for thermodynamic entropy.
